THIS YEAR: Sophomore Lauren Orris is a potential "diamond in the rough" who could develop into an All-American thrower with hard work and experience ... Competes in the shot, discus, hammer and weight throw with the discus being her strongest event.
2010 (freshman): Competed in both the NAIA indoor and outdoor championship in her collegiate rookie season ... Did not get out of the prelims in neither the weight throw (indoor) nor the discus (outdoor) but gained valuable experience on the national level ... At the GSAC Championship Meet in Santa Barbara, Calif., helped pace the Cougars way toward the conference crown by scoring 13 points in 3 different events ... Finished third in the shot (37' 8") and the hammer (139' 2") to garner All-GSAC recognition and then was eighth in the discus (101' 6") ... Threw a personal-best 135' 0" in the Bryan Clay Invitational discus.
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 3-time all-state honoree at Palatine (Ill.) High where she competed 4 years for Head Coach Steve Currins ... As a 2009 senior finished fourth the shot (41' 2 1/4") and fifth the discus (131' 9") while leading the Pirates to a second-place finish in the state 3A meet ... As a 2007 sophomore, finished fourth at the state meet in the discus (138' 4") ... Was seventh as a 2008 junior (137' 5") ... Was a 4-time conference champion ... Also lettered 4 years in basketball (forward) and was team MVP as a 2009 senior.
